According to, although 46% of financial services employees are women, at an executive level, the percentage is significantly smaller with only 15% of women employees, making them a minority.

Now more than ever, women are making their way in the financial industry and tackle issues on a daily basis such as gender pay gap and imbalance.

Communicating effectively and with confidence in a competitive working environment is vital especially for those whose voices are often ignored or overpowered.

Here are 3 empowering tips for women in the finance industry:

  • Be open to a mentor or coach

As a young professional having a coach/mentor that can guide you is extremely important. Their many years of experience in the industry can help you achieve your career goals and advise you in important decisions.

  • Communicate openly with your colleagues/seniors

Know your strengths and weaknesses and communicate honestly and effectively about areas you may need help. A team effort will improve relationships as well as help the team to stand out.

  • Build the right network

People often miss out on job opportunities you can find in events, conferences, job fairs or even at the pub for the after-work drinks. It’s also important to seek out and contact the right people on social media. The world is filled with strong influential women to get inspired from.

Let’s encourage women in the finance industry to keep raising awareness on gender diversity and remind them to be unapologetic in fighting for what they deserve.
